Ms. IWAMA Yoko
Professor

Employment:

Yoko Iwama is Professor of the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS). Her specialty is international security and European diplomatic history.

Work Experience:

After serving as Special Assistant at the Japanese Embassy in Germany, Prof. Iwama joined GRIPS in 2000, was appointed Professor in 2009. She has served on numerous government committees including the Council on Reconstruction of a Legal Basis for Security (2006-7, 2013-14).

Her publications include: The Global Nuclear Order of 1968 and West Germany (Kaku no 1968nen Taisei to Nishi Doitsu) (Yuhikaku, 2021); Joining the Non-Proliferation Treaty: Deterrence, Non-Proliferation and the American Alliance, ed. with John Baylis (Routledge 2018).

Education:

Prof. IWAMA graduated from Kyoto University and earned her PhD in Law at the same university.

Ms. Anna Hajduk BRADFORD

Since September 2021, Anna Hajduk Bradford holds the position of Director of the Division of Nuclear Installation Safety at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). In this capacity, she is responsible for establishment of the appropriate safety infrastructure and for continuously improving the safety of nuclear installations during site evaluation, design, construction, and operation. During her career, she has led efforts in a wide range of technical and policy areas such as long-term operation of reactors, low-level waste management and disposal, environmental reviews, fuel cycle facility licensing, and advanced reactor policy issues.

Prior to this appointment, Ms Bradford had worked since 2000 for the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), where she held several senior positions, including Deputy Chief of Staff/Policy Advisor in the Chairman's Office, Branch Chief, Deputy Division Director and Division Director. Her most recent assignment was as Director of the Division that leads the licensing of new reactors, including small modular reactors. She also served as Chair of the Small Modular Reactor Regulators' Forum until 2021. Prior to joining the USNRC, Ms Bradford worked at an engineering consulting firm supporting nuclear-related projects for the US Department of Energy.

Ms Bradford holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg and a Master's degree in Environmental Engineering from the John Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Dr. Goulart is the Head of Unit of Euratom Coordination since May 2021.

The mission of the Unit is to coordinate the work of the JRC in the Euratom Research & Training and JRC Decommissioning & Waste Management Programmes, and to enhance the cooperation with the JRC stakeholders in several areas including nuclear safety, security and safeguards and nuclear science applications.

Work Experience:

Before becoming a Head of Unit, Dr. Goulart has been working in the JRC Directorate for Strategy, Work Programme and Resources for approximately 10 years, mainly working on nuclear security and non-proliferation. Before joining the European Commission, she has worked in the Portuguese Technological and Nuclear Institute and was an active scientific researcher and university teacher for 15 years, in cooperation with the Faculty of Sciences and the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Lisbon, the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the New University of Lisbon and other academic institutions. She did a postdoc in the University of North Carolina, USA.

Education:

Dr. Goulart has a Pharmacy Degree from the University of Lisbon, a Medical Degree from the University of Coimbra, a PhD in Toxicology from the University of Lisbon and a Master's Degree from the Universite Libre de Bruxelles.
