Contributing to the Sound Development of
Nuclear Science and Technology
and the Realization of a World Free
from the Threats of Nuclear Weapons and
Nuclear Terrorism

Greetings from the Director

Thank you very much for your continuous support and understanding of JAEA's nuclear non-proliferation, nuclear security activities and nuclear human resource development programs.

On April 1, 2025, the "Integrated Support Center for Nuclear Nonproliferation and Nuclear Security" (ISCN) and the "Nuclear Human Resource Development Center" were integrated to form the new "Integrated Support Center for Nuclear Nonproliferation, Security and Human Resource Development" (abbreviated as the same ISCN). Under JAEA's vision of "Opening up a New Future with 'Nuclear x Renewable'", we will promote human resource development support and technological development more effectively with the knowledge and experience of both centers.

The new center aims to contribute to the "sound development of nuclear science and technology and the realization of a world free from the threat of nuclear weapons and nuclear terrorism." It will play a key role as a hub in Asia and domestically through "3S Human Resource Development Support × 2S Technological Development and Cooperation." By leveraging JAEA's expertise and years of experience, we will provide support tailored to the changing needs and promote human resource development both domestically and internationally.

In the field of nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear security, ISCN will utilize its international network and technological development achievements to promote foundational technology development, radiological and nuclear terrorism countermeasures (nuclear forensics), and CTBT technical cooperation. Additionally, in collaboration with international organizations such as the IAEA, CTBTO, and the U.S. DOE/NNSA, we will contribute to enhancing security in the Asian region.

In nuclear human resource development, based on JAEA's over 60 years of experience, we will provide practical and advanced education support. In addition to face-to-face training, we will expand remote education utilizing digital technologies, providing cutting-edge knowledge and skills to a wide range of individuals. Furthermore, we will focus on training experts in SMR (Small Modular Reactors) and next-generation nuclear technologies, accelerating global human resource development.

With the establishment of this center, we have integrated nuclear non-proliferation, nuclear security, and nuclear human resource development, creating a system that provides more comprehensive and effective support.

The year 2025 marks the 20th anniversary of JAEA's establishment and the 15th anniversary of ISCN's founding. Building on the achievements so far, we will aim for further development and continue our efforts to strengthen nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear security, and promote nuclear human resource development. We sincerely appreciate your continued understanding and support.
